Outstanding VIPS of the Year!

Dear Cubberley Families,

As you are well aware, Cubberley School is a community that is known for its outstanding staff and our large group of active parent volunteers who work tirelessly to support the staff and the many programs and activities that take place here. Yesterday, one of our amazing volunteers, Mrs. Maria Towne, was recognized as one of LBUSD’s Outstanding VIPS of the Year. Maria has been a Cubberley parent volunteer for ten years. She is currently serving her second year as PTA president and is on the School Site Council. She partnered with me three years ago to start our Character Counts program, which includes Cubs with Character, Staff with Character, and Cub of the Month. I appreciate her positive attitude and her willingness to serve in any capacity she is asked to serve.

Mrs. Pirie, our Student Government Advisor has added, “Maria Towne is the epitome of all that is wonderful about people who truly commit to being a volunteer. Not only has she served as the PTA president for two years, but she was an integral part of the 8th grade parent committee last year and is constantly picking up the pieces and supporting all of the events on campus. Whenever I see her, she has a smile on her face, and it comes from her generous heart. She is all about the students, the staff, the parents, and about building a community at Cubberley. She has stepped in many times to help me: ordering, picking up, and serving pizza to 140 eighth graders; putting up banners; and supporting every one of my Student Government events in any way she can.”

I want to congratulate Mrs. Towne on this accomplishment and also want to thank her from the bottom of my heart for her years of dedication to the Cubberley Community.
